A Dedicated Teacher

Shauna is known for her positive, effective teaching style. Her goal as a teacher is to share the techniques and information that helped her the most in her own artistic journey. Demonstrations are informative and effective, taking a blank canvas to an established painting while discussing the thought process along the way. Shauna has the gift of being able to describe what it is she is thinking as she develops a painting, and each demonstration gives new and useful information.

2025 Winter Classes:

Confident Landscape: Wednesday Mornings @ West Hartford Art League

Oil or Acrylic

Known for her positive and enthusiastic teaching style, Shauna’s outgoing personality and positive instruction make her classes a joy for anyone that shares an appreciation of beauty and a love of art.  Her enthusiasm for her students’ success and her skill at bringing this subject down to size is informed by 32 years of teaching classes and giving demonstrations. All levels: but some experience with your chosen medium is recommended.

Beginning with an informative demonstration Shauna will show you how to see the world in terms of shadow and light, simplifying the landscape to the most basic masses and values. With specific, individual instruction you will learn the “what, why, and how” of a successful painting. We will learn the steps necessary to be able to express ourselves artistically, how to see the world in a new way, and even more, how to give yourself the gift of confidence. Rain date will be chosen in case of inclement weather.

Drawing: Wednesday Afternoons @ West Hartford Art League

The ability to see the world and express it in a beautiful way is a skill that is the foundation for everything we do in art, and once understood, the artistic journey can become one of satisfaction, even joy.

This class is for anyone who wants to build the best possible foundation for your personal artistic journey. Whether a beginner or experienced, this class is your window into seeing the subject in a new way. With a different point of view you can see much more accurately. Value, negative shape, perspective, and the dramatic shapes of light and dark will be discussed.

Shauna’s first class begins with an informative demonstration describing first — the joy found in the search for excellence, and then — the what, why, and how of each decision. Concept, composition, value development, and finally, the tools that bring it all together into a successful drawing are described and illustrated.

A generous and outgoing teacher, her individual, specific instruction make her classes a joy for anyone who has an appreciation of the artistic process. Even more, her students come away with a new way of seeing the world.

Later this Autumn: 2024 ARTISTS OPEN STUDIO

I began my first Open Studio in 1988 with the mission of introducing working artists to their community and neighbors; and providing a view into the studio environment of the artist. While experiencing recent works, visitors can appreciate the evolution and advancement of artistic expression from year to year.

I am extremely proud that Artists Open Studio in our Quiet Corner of Connecticut has grown to the number of working artists represented this year. Be sure to visit www.aosct.org for the images and descriptions of all participating artists in Open Studio. November 29,30, & December 1; and December 7 & 8, 2024.
